The eighth day of your Golden Triangle with Shimla Tour will be spent in exploring the beautiful city of Shimla.
The city is full of natural beauty and architectural wonders which you would love. Shimla is the capital of Himachal Pradesh, and it was a colonial heaven back in the days when India was under the British rule. Due to this, you will find a lot of British influence on its architecture.
The first place to visit would be the famous Botanical Gardens of Shimla. It has been there since the times of the British rule, and was the residence of the Viceroy. The gardens are located on observatory Hills and are surrounded by well-maintained gardens and lawns, ringed by beautiful pine trees and rose plants.
The next place of visit is the Shimla Mall Road. It was constructed during the colonial times, and its architecture speaks about those times vividly. The Mall Road has all the main offices such as the municipal headquarters, the police station, the fire station, etc. There are a lot of different stores and places of shopping, especially a handicrafts store from where you can buy some amazing gifts for your family and friends.
It is very much the main street of Shimla, and is located just a level below the Ridge.
The Ridge is the next place of visit. It is the Town Square of Shimla, where all the cultural activities of Shimla take place. It is basically a hub of all such activities, and all the main streets are connected with the Ridge.
The next place of visit is the Jakhu Temple, which is located just east of the Ridge. The temple is located at a height of about 2500 kilometers above the sea level, and worships the Hindu God Lord Hanuman. It is said that the temple is located at the same place where Lord Hanuman supposedly rested while on his way to get the ‘Sanjeevnibooti' (a magical herb) to cure the wounded Lord Laxman. It is a very famous place of worship for a lot of Hindus.
The next place to visit is the Himachal State Museum. The museum is again a colonial era building which has some amazing artefacts that you would love to see. Not only that, the museum visit would also give you a perspective about colonial Indian history.
The last palace which you would be visiting is the Summer Hill. It is not only a beautiful place but also a historical place where Mahatma Gandhi once stayed. The hill today is a beautiful tourist spot that is covered with pine trees and greenery. It also has the Indian Institute of Advanced Study located on the nearby observatory hill.
After you are done with your excursion in Shimla, come back to your hotel and stay there for the night.
